Canadian singer and poet Leonard Cohen collapses in Valencia
Veteran Canadian singer-songwriter, poet and author Leonard Cohen collapsed on stage in Valencia on Friday night.

74-year-old Cohen was first treated by medical staff at the Luis Puig Velodrome in the Spanish city and then taken to the Nueve de Octubre hospital. He was subsequently discharged in the early hours of Saturday and it was found that he had been suffering from food poisoning.

Leonard CohenCohen had been performing his song Bird on the Wire when he fainted and his backing band stopped playing and rushed to see what was the matter with him.

Javier Mas, one of the backing musicians, is reported to have told the audience that Cohen had earlier on been suffering from stomach cramps and vomiting.

Despite his bout of sickness Cohen’s final concert in his tour of Spain has been announced as going ahead in Barcelona on Monday.

Cohen, who was born in Montreal, is probably best known for his song Suzanne taken from his first album The Songs of Leonard Cohen, which was released on the Columbia label back in 1968.
