Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary dies from leukaemia
Veteran American folk singer Mary Travers, who was one third of the 1960s group Peter, Paul and Mary, has died after battling against leukaemia at the age of 72.

The official website for Peter, Paul and Mary revealed that Travers had died because of "the side effects of one of the chemotherapy treatments".

Mary TraversPeter, Paul and Mary are best known for hit songs like If I Had a Hammer and Puff, The Magic Dragon.

Travers supported civil rights and anti-war movements and the group often performed at political rallies and protests.

After Peter, Paul and Mary disbanded in the early 1970s, Travers carried on as a solo artist and the trio also went on to reunite for benefits and other events.

Travers had undergone a bone marrow transplant and Associated Press had quoted her in 2006 as saying she was "feeling fabulous," however, her condition had worsened again by the summer of this year and she had become unable to perform.

Travers leaves behind a husband, Ethan Robbins and two daughters, Alicia and Erika who survive her.
