Mr Lombard said that copycat suicides had to be prevented, whilst Mr Darcos had called upon France Telecom to listen to its workers and to take steps to tackle the very real problem.
French unions have said the blame for the suicides is due to how the company has been managed since it was privatised in 1998.
However, France Telecom claims that the suicide rate is statistically not above normal for a firm with a staff of 100, 000 employees.
