France Telecom start hotline for suicidal and stressed staff
The communications company France Telecom is going to start a free hotline for stressed and depressed staff following the 23rd suicide by one of its workers in the last 18 months.

French Labour Minister, Xavier Darcos, and France Telecom's chief executive, Didier Lombard had held a meeting and it was as a result of this that the decision was made.

Xavier DarcosMr Lombard said that copycat suicides had to be prevented, whilst Mr Darcos had called upon France Telecom to listen to its workers and to take steps to tackle the very real problem.

French unions have said the blame for the suicides is due to how the company has been managed since it was privatised in 1998.

However, France Telecom claims that the suicide rate is statistically not above normal for a firm with a staff of 100, 000 employees.

A 32-year-old woman jumped to her death at a France Telecom office in Paris and became the latest in a series of suicides.
