Sir Elton John hopes to adopt Ukrainian boy

Pop singer Sir Elton John has said he wants to adopt a little boy whom he met at an orphanage in Ukraine where the star gave a performance and where some of the orphans’ parents had died from AIDS.

62-year-old Sir Elton told reporters at a press conference that he had always been against adoption of a child because of how old he is now and because his lifestyle takes him away travelling on tour so often that he didn’t think it would be right to take on a child.

However, a14-month-old toddler called Lev had "stolen his heart" and made him change his mind about the idea.

Sir Elton’s partner 46-year-old David Furnish had been all for adopting a child but in the past the singer had decided against it but now he has reconsidered and is hoping that he can adopt the little boy.

Sir Elton also explained that the death of his good friend the keyboard-player, Guy Babylon, who had just died from a heart attack at the age of only 52, had made him think again too.
