French tennis star Gael Monfils loses to Rafael Nadal

French tennis star Gael Monfils has just been beaten by Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who now goes forward to the quarter-finals of the US Open.

The world number three has recently made his comeback after recovering from a knee injury, and he has been suffering from a stomach problem, but you couldn’t tell this in Tuesday's night match in which he easily beat his French opponent with a 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-1 6-3 score .

Playing on the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Monfils performed well in the first set but after that he couldn’t find the sort of power he needed to hold his own or to beat the Spaniard.

It is looking as if Nadal may be all set for his first US Open victory, and he said after the match that his knee was no longer bothering him, so he is feeling confident of further success.
