French-Spanish film-maker Christian Poveda murdered
Christian Poveda, a French-Spanish film-maker has been found dead in a car in El Salvador, where he had made a documentary about street gangs last year. He had been shot.

Poveda’s body was discovered in a vehicle north of the capital, San Salvador, according to police sources.

Christian PovedaPoveda’s film La Vida Loca (The Crazy Life) documented the lives of members of the Mara 18 gang.

Salvadorean President Mauricio Funes has called for a full police investigation into Poveda’s killing.

The film-maker had first come to El Salvador working as a photographer in the 1980s to cover the civil war in the country, and he went back there in the decade after that to research and film the street gangs.

La Vida Loca went on show at festivals in America, Mexico, Spain and Cuba, as well as the country where it was filmed.
