
Maurice Jarre, who relocated to America in the 1960s, first had major success back in 1962 when he was the composer for Lawrence of Arabia, and he was honoured with an Oscar for this work.
Jarre went on to be awarded two more Oscars for Doctor Zhivago and A Passage to India, and in his long and very successful career he penned the music for over 150 films.
Jarre received six Academy Award nominations came Jarre's way for his compositions for films that included Ghost, Gorillas In The Mist and Witness.
The celebrated French composer was honoured with two Bafta Awards, four Golden Globes and a Grammy award.
Famous movie directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and John Huston used Jarre's music for their films, and he composed music for theatre, ballet and television as well.
Jarre was married four times, and his other son Kevin is a screenwriter, who also lives in America.
