In Mexico City, it is reported that 12,937 people turned up to dance to the star’s hit Thriller, and the organisers of the gathering say this figure has broken a record for the number of dancers all dancing at the same time.
Fans in London, Paris, Moscow, Delhi, Barcelona and Bucharest also held mass gatherings to celebrate Jackson’s birthday.
Messages and memorabilia were left by fans in tribute at Jackson’s former Neverland ranch and by his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and many of the fans also dressed like their idol.
Jackson died from cardiac arrest at his home in June although his death has now been recorded as homicide due to Propofol and other drugs in his body at the time of death.
The Jackson family had planned to bury him on his birthday, however, after a change of plan he is now being laid to rest in a private ceremony on Thursday.
