Frenchman Sylvain Quimene wins air guitar contest in Finland
Frenchman Sylvain Quimene has become the Air Guitar World Champion after winning this year’s contest in Oulu, Finland.

Air guitar playing is performing with an imaginary instrument in your hands and Quimene, who has the stage name "Gunther Love," was judged the winner.

air guitar contest in OuluBudding rock guitarists around the world often copy the actions of their heroes in this way or on real guitars. In this competition this playing of unreal instruments is taken seriously though and contestants are judged on their skill at making it look as if they are really playing guitars.

Those competing in the championships must perform a 60-second solo performance with an imaginary guitar. They are judged on their skill and on the reaction they get from the audience, personal charisma and their image.

Many air guitar players wear fancy stage gear mimicking real rock stars and making a very visual presence. Whatever it takes to impress as an air guitar player, Quimene had it when he took to the stage.
