French abducted tourist set free in Pakistan
A tourist from France who was the victim of a kidnapping that took place in south-western Pakistan three months back has been released.

The 41-year-old man, who had not been named by the authorities, had been given his freedom in the district of Dalbandin in Balochistan province, according to reports.

KidnappedThe Frenchman had been taken hostage back in May by gunmen when he was travelling with other tourists.

It isn’t known who the kidnappers were or if any ransom was demanded and paid to buy his freedom.  The people who abducted the man are thought to be criminals not militants though.

The AFP news agency quoted an un-named source as saying: "He has been released this morning, he is safe and sound with Pakistani officials."

French President Nicolas Sarkozy was very relieved that the man had been released, according to the Associated Press, and a statement issued by the president's office thanked Pakistan for helping to ensure the tourist’s freedom.
