French university lecturer freed by Iran
A 24-year-old French university lecturer charged with spying after last month's presidential election is reported to have been released on bail by Iran.

Official sources say that Clotilde Reiss is in good health and that she would be staying at the French embassy in Tehran whilst waiting for a verdict. She had been on trial before a tribunal on 8 August.

Nicolas SarkozyFrench president Nicolas Sarkozy's office has called for all charges against her and a French-Iranian embassy employee to be dropped.

Ms Reiss had been originally arrested in Tehran on 1 July, following her involvement in post-election street protest campaigns.

President Sarkozy has thanked the European Union and the country’s allies, for their help in getting Ms Reiss freed from her imprisonment in Iran.

French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has announced on television that a verdict for Ms Reiss’s case is expected in about eight days.
