Artist Andy Warhol’s portrait of pop star Michael Jackson, who died recently, is going up for auction in New York.

Before it goes on sale in America, the 1984 artwork by Warhol will be on display at London's British Music Experience, inside the O2 Arena. This is the venue at which Jackson had been due to perform a series of concerts but was unable to because he died.

Andy WarholAmerican artist Warhol was a pioneer of the Pop Art genre of painting, who became famous for his art that depicted mass-produced images from the current culture. Warhol had also died in 1987, after gall bladder surgery.

The British Music Experience will be the only place in Europe where the 1984 Warhol portrait of Jackson can be viewed before it goes for auction in America.

50-year-old Jackson died of a cardiac arrest at home in Los Angeles on 25 June.
