Whiter Shade of Pale writer Matthew Fisher wins case
Former Procol Harum organ player Matthew Fisher has won his lengthy legal battle to be credited officially as co-writer of the hit song Whiter Shade of Pale.

Five Law Lords decided that Fisher, who now works as a computer programmer, but who has maintained that he wrote the song's organ melody when he was in the band, will be getting a share of future royalties for the hit.

Procul Harum organistBack in 2006, the High Court ruled that Fisher was allowed 40% of the copyright of Whiter Shade of Pale, however, the Court Of Appeal overturned this last year because they claimed that the musician had waited far too long to take legal action over the matter. It had taken Fisher 38 years to do so.

Because of this ruling, the copyright for Whiter Shade of Pale, which was a number one in Britain in 1967, went back to Procol Harum singer Gary Brooker and lyrics-writer Keith Reid.

On Thursday, the Law Lords reversed this by reinstating the 2006 High Court ruling.
