Former American Idol hopeful Alexis Cohen dies in accident
Former American Idol contestant Alexis Cohen has died after being the victim of a hit-and-run car accident in Seaside Heights in New Jersey, reports say.

25-year-old Cohen, from Allentown, Pennsylvania, made her name last year after she swore excessively at the show's judges.

Alexis CohenThe Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has said that an autopsy revealed she died after suffering chest, head and abdominal injuries.

Cohen, who lived with her mother and was hoping to become a vet when she first auditioned for American Idol compared her voice to singers like Janis Joplin and Grace Slick, but the judges didn’t think much of her performance of Jefferson Airplane's Somebody To Love.

Simon Cowell compared her with the evil Green Goblin from Spider-Man but she responded angrily and said: "Simon is a big fat bad word".

Clips of her rant against Cowell became a great success on file-sharing websites and she went on to appear on several American TV shows.

An investigation is being launched into the accident that caused Cohen’s death.
