20-year-old Brown had been arrested the night before the Grammy awards in February and he admitted he was guilty of assaulting his then-girlfriend.
He had attacked 21-year-old Rihanna, who is also a singer, in a sports car he was renting following a pre-Grammy party in Los Angeles.
It was claimed that Brown tried to push Rihanna out of the car and that he hit her many times and even tried to choke her.
Brown and Rihanna had been due to appear at the Grammy awards but their performance was cancelled in the wake of what happened.
Brown has lost sponsorship deals, been dropped by radio stations and come under a lot of criticism.
He is likely to face five years' probation and be given six months of community service when he receives his sentence next month.
