The Pope was examined and treated at a hospital he had gone to with an aide in the alpine town of Aosta but Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said that the injury was not a serious one.
Italian news agency Ansa revealed that the first results of an X-ray examination of the Pope’s condition showed that he has "a small fracture to the right wrist".
He had been staying at a house in the village of Les Combes in the Valle d'Aosta area of Italy at the time of his accident. The location had been a favourite place of Pope John Paul II as well.
