The singer faced a maximum sentence of 10 years and the prosecution wanted him to get at least seven.
It was alleged that Cheb Mami was in a group of people who kidnapped and beat up the woman, who was working as a French photographer.
It was claimed the crimes against her took place in the Algerian capital, Algiers, in 2005, where she had been staying for a few days after saying that she was pregnant by the singer.
The prosecution claimed that the woman was drugged and taken to a villa where three people attempted to perform an abortion on her.
After her ordeal, and after going back to France, she found out that she was still pregnant and later gave birth to a baby girl.
The singer showed no emotion as the verdict was given, although during the course of his trial he asked for that the woman might forgive him.
Cheb Mami had been arrested at Orly airport in Paris on Monday.
