France Open golf event led by Germany's Martin Kaymer
German golf star Martin Kaymer is in the lead at the France Open by three shots after a he made an incredible nine-under-par first round of 62, and in so doing, matched the previous record for the course there.

24-year-old Kaymer was suffering from a very badly blistered foot that he had needed medical treatment for on the Wednesday when he was practising. Bearing this in mind his performance was all the more remarkable.

France Open golf eventKaymer is holding the lead for the event by three shots and is competing against some top golfers including England's John Bickerton, who was the winner in 2006, and Padraig Harrington from Ireland.

Despite his foot problems and the very hot weather, Kaymer has been able to play some of his best golf ever.

Kaymer had actually started off with a bogey, however, he followed with five birdies in the next nine holes, an eagle at the third and completed his performance with three more birdies. All in all it was a brilliant performance by the German golf star.
