French President Nicolas Sarkozy makes history
President of France Nicolas Sarkozy will go down in history as the first French head of state to address parliament in the last 136 years.

French presidents have not been permitted to address parliament for all that time, but the ban enacted in 1875, was abolished last year.

President SarkozyOn Monday afternoon, President Sarkozy is going to be outlining his reform proposals and his forthcoming speech has already been compared with the America president's state of the union address.

However, Communist and Green MPs are not happy with this and will be boycotting the speech.

President Sarkozy will be making his address at the palace of Versailles, and will be speaking to a joint session of both houses of the French parliament.

The French president is thought to be focusing on his reform plans for the second half of his presidency, which will include alterations to the pension system and local government.
