French tennis star Gael Monfils abandons Wimbledon
French tennis star Gael Monfils has had to pull out from appearing as one of the players at this year's Wimbledon because he has injured his wrist whilst playing at Queen's Club.

Monfils was forced to abandon the Aegon Championships after winning in the second-round against Andrey Golubev, and it comes as a great disappointment to the Frenchman that he will no longer be able to take part at Wimbledon.

Gael MonfilsMonfils, who is seeded as number 14 for the All England Club, will have to now be replaced in the men's singles draw by some other player who has qualified to take part in his stead.

And Rafael Nadal from Spain, who is the world number one in the tennis rankings, will have to decide if he is fit enough to compete because he has been suffering from an injury problem as well.

Tommy Haas is seeded as number 24 following his defeat of Novak Djokovic on Sunday at the tournament in Halle.
