French President Sarkozy jeered at at Omar Bongo's funeralFrench President Nicolas Sarkozy had a very bad reception from mourners at the funeral of President Omar Bongo.
The political leader of France was jeered at and booed as he joined other heads of state for the funeral in the capital of Gabon, Libreville.
President Sarkozy had arrived at the presidential palace to lay a wreath at Mr Bongo's coffin but the crowd gathered there booed him.
Gabon had been closely linked with France under Mr Bongo, but he was at the centre of a French corruption investigation last month.
President Bongo died just last week in a Spanish clinic after being ill for a long time.
Bongo, who served a very long spell in office totalling four decades, is going to be buried in Franceville, his hometown in the south-east of Gabon on Thursday.
President Sarkozy was joined by his predecessor, Jacques Chirac, and the AP news agency reported that the crowd jeered at him too.
Some of the people shouted out: "We don't want you - leave" and "No to France".
However, the two French politicians were applauded inside the palace as they placed their wreaths at the foot of Mr Bongo's coffin.
