France and Italy accused by One anti-poverty group
The anti-poverty group known as One, which was founded by rock singer Bono, has accused France and Italy of failing to keep their promises with regard to aid being supplied to African nations.

One claim that Italy had actually stopped aid to Africa, although the country had made vows at a 2005 economic summit that it would be increasing aid for the poverty-afflicted areas.

Bono's anti-povertyThe group One also maintains that France has reduced its aid targets as well as making cuts in its aid budget.

One is part of the anti-poverty advocacy organisation Data (Debt, Aids, Trade Africa), set up in 2002, and founded by Bono, the lead singer of the U2 rock band.

The One report that accuses the two European countries of failing to keep their word is backed by people such as Bill Gates and Desmond Tutu.

One claims that Italy and France are actually holding back other members of the G8 group of rich countries.

Rock star and singer-songwriter Bob Geldof, who has become active as an anti-poverty campaigner, and former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan have put together a joint introduction to the report.
