Very many pieces of debris from the jet have also been discovered by Brazilian and French ships.
The bodies and debris were located in an area of ocean about 1,000km (600 miles) north-east of the Brazilian Fernando de Noronha islands.
15 bodies had already been found on Sunday with a further two being found on Saturday.
It is reported that four of the bodies are of men and four are of women but, as yet, no more details of the other bodies have been given.
The bodies of the dead are being taken to the nearby archipelago of Fernando de Noronha, and then transported to the Brazilian city of Recife, where a temporary mortuary has been set up.
Relatives of passengers and crew that had been on board the plane have already given DNA samples to help in the identification of the bodies that are being found.
Six ships and 14 planes from France and Brazil are taking part in the ongoing search operation.
