French Open win for Swiss tennis star Roger Federer
Swiss tennis star Roger Federer defeated Sweden's Robin Soderling in straight sets to claim victory for the first time ever at the French Open.

In so doing, the world number two has also equalised with the legendary Pete Sampras's record of 14 Grand Slam titles.

Roger FedererWith this 6-1 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 victory in France 27-year-old Federer has become only the sixth male tennis star to have won each of the four Grand Slam tennis contests.

Federer gave a great performance throughout the match in which he was easily in control of the game against his Swedish opponent.

Federer, who had a lot of support from the excited crowd, beat Soderling in one hour and 55 minutes.

The Swiss star has now claimed a total haul of five Wimbledon titles, five US Opens, three Australian Opens and one French Open, and he joins the list of legendary players Fred Perry, Don Budge, Roy Emerson, Rod Laver and Andre Agassi, who are the only male players to have won all four Grand Slam titles.

A delighted Federer said afterwards that it was probably his greatest victory.
