French rugby side Catalans Dragons want Greg Bird
French rugby club the Catalans Dragons want Australian player Greg Bird in their team and are not worried about his recent conviction for assault.

25-year-old Bird was on trial in Sydney last week and was convicted of assaulting his girlfriend.

Bird had originally signed a contract with the Catalans Dragons to the end of the season and had been appointed captain.

Bird came back from his home country after the court case to play against Leeds on Sunday, but he must return to Australia for sentencing on 22 June.

Bird intends appealing against his conviction.

Australian rugby club Canberra released Bird earlier this year after he had been arrested, but being in trouble with the law did not put off clubs that wanted to sign him.

Bradford had been the first to confirm an agreement for his signature, however, this didn't happen because the British High Commission rejected Bird's visa application.
