France football captain Didier Deschamps to coach Marseille
France football captain Didier Deschamps has been appointed as the next coach of Olympique Marseille and will be taking over the role next season.

40-year-old Deschamps, who had previously been with Marseille twice as a player and had guided the team to winning the 1993 Champions League title, will be the replacement for Eric Gerets, who is due to leave the French club.

Didier DeschampsMarseille have described Deschamps as a coach of "the highest standard" who will carry on the "great work" of Gerets.

Deschamps has been very successful in the past as a footballer and as a coach. Besides winning the 1993 Champions League title for the French team by defeating Milan, three years after that he won it again with Juventus.

Working in international football Deschamps was captain for France when they were triumphant in both the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

And in the role of coach he led Monaco to the 2004 Champions League final as well as winning the Serie B title with Juventus in 2006-07.
