Ryanair to close check-ins by end of yearThe Irish airline firm Ryanair has announced that it intends closing all of its check-in desks by the end of the year. The company is hoping that this measure will help keep the cost of its flights down.
From the beginning of 2010, all customers booking flights with Ryanair will now have to check in online for flight confirmation.
Ryanair say that by cutting costs at airports it will mean lower fares for passengers, and the company pointed out that 75% of its customers are already checking in online. Stephen McNamara, for Ryanair, said it was the "logical next step" in a bid to keep fares at a cheaper price, and chief executive Michael O'Leary was quoted in the Daily Telegraph newspaper saying that passengers will be able to leave their luggage at a baggage collection point. However, he confirmed that everything else will now be online.
