French President Sarkozy criticises Gordon Brown’s plan
French President Nicolas Sarkozy is reported to have found fault with UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown's current economic stimulus proposal.

President Sarkozy was speaking on French TV when he commented that the British VAT cut had "absolutely not worked".

Gordon BrownThe French leader added: "Britain is cutting taxes. That will bring them nothing. Consumption continues to decrease."

However, Downing Street have pointed out that the government of France have said the president’s remarks were not intended as a criticism of Britain.

Conservatives in the UK claim that President Nicolas Sarkozy is another foreign leader, who has found fault with Gordon Brown's policies.

And Shadow chancellor George Osborne said: "Gordon Brown claims to have saved the world. It would appear that world leaders increasingly disagree."

President Sarkozy defended his own proposals for reviving the French economy but this news comes in the wake of protests and strikes by a million French workers only a week ago.
