More than 80m people have now seen Phantom of the Opera, which opened in London in 1988 and the show is also the most successful entertainment venture ever, with worldwide box office takings of more than $3.2bn (£1.8bn).
Phantom of the Opera's takings have even easily beaten those of Titanic, the world's highest-earning movie.
An incredible total of more than 65,000 performances of Phantom of the Opera have been staged in 119 cities in 24 countries around the world.
A special gala performance took place on Monday, followed by a masked ball at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel attended by original star Michael Crawford who is also famous for his role as Frank in the television comedy Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em.
