The bodies of the actress’s mother, 57-year-old Darnell Donerson, and her brother, 29-year-old Jason Hudson, had been found in their Chicago home on 24 October, whilst the dead body of her nephew, seven-year-old Julian King, was also discovered three days afterwards.
Mr Balfour was arrested soon after the deaths had been found out about and he was charged with murder in December of last year.
The prosecution , at a court in Chicago, allege that Balfour shot his victims while he was in rage brought on by jealousy over knowing that his estranged wife was in a relationship with someone new.
27-year-old Hudson, came to fame as a finalist on the 2004 series of American Idol, and then in 2007 she was awarded an Oscar for her part in Dreamgirls.
