29-year-old Mauresmo ended up winning with a 4-6 6-3 6-2 score in the second round, although it had been Baltacha, who had won the first set.
And after much-needed break in the extreme heat, Baltacha began the third set well but she was unable to keep it up and Mauresmo won claiming victories for six games in a row.
Mauresmo, who has already been the winner of the Australian Open three years ago, goes forward to play against 13th seed Victoria Azarenka.
Azarenka has been playing very well recently in Australia and was the winner of the Brisbane International two weeks back.
