Leonard Cohen song gives X Factor winner a number one
Canadian singer-songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen’s song Hallelujah has taken X Factor winner Alexandra Burke to the number one spot in the pop charts with her cover version.

Cohen's Hallelujah has spent a second week topping the chart, whilst Jeff Buckley’s version of the same song has dropped five places to number seven.

X FactorVeteran songwriter Cohen made a return to the stage earlier in the year and performed on a tour which took him to the Glastonbury Festival amongst other events and venues.

20-year-old Alexandra, who comes from London, shares the top of the chart with 2006 X Factor winner Leona Lewis, whose cover of Snow Patrol's Run holds the number two slot.

Cover versions are clearly the route to success in the pop world at present.

Elsewhere, the top five albums haven’t changed, with reunited boy band Take That's The Circus being the number one in the final sales figures for 2008.
