
Kitt, who was famous for her distinctive voice and who lived in the American state of Connecticut, had several hits, including Old Fashioned Girl, C'est Si Bon and Santa Baby.
Kitt first appeared as an actress in a number of 1950s films.
She was nominated in the Tony, Grammy and Emmy award categories, as well as having played the role of Catwoman in the Batman television series in the 1960s.
Kitt was a great success on New York's Broadway in the 1978 production, Timbuktu! and from the 1980s and onwards she had roles in many films.

Kitt found her way onto the path to stardom, when aged just 16, she was taken on as a dancer with a professional troupe touring Europe, and this led to her appearing later on in Paris nightclubs.
Kitt had one daughter from a marriage in the 1960s that was short-lived.
