French kidnapped aid worker freed, says President Sarkozy
President Nicolas Sarkozy of France has revealed that a French education specialist who had been taken captive in Kabul in Afghanistan has been freed.

Gunmen had kidnapped 32-year-old Dany Egreteau in the Afghan capital city on 3 November and a driver from the country was killed as he tried to stop the crime from taking place.

Nicolas SarkozyThe foreign ministry for France has been working with Afghan officials since then to secure Mr Egreteau's release.

Mr Egreteau had only been in Afghanistan for one week before he was abducted and many other foreigners have faced attacks in the country.

In October, a Briton and South African working for an international courier company were killed by gunshot and just days after that British aid worker Gayle Williams met her death the same way after being shot by two gunmen.

The Taleban and criminals have been kidnapping or killing many foreigners and hundreds of Afghans over the last five years, and the country can pose a danger to people working there.
