This kidnapping has happened only 10 days after a British person and a South African were murdered in Kabul and just a fortnight after an aid worker from the UK was also killed there.
Interior ministry for Afghanistan spokesman Zemarai Bashari was quoted by the AFP news agency as having said: "A man... who tried to stop the abductors was shot and killed as he tried to scuffle with them."
Ghulam Hazrat, who is the uncle of the driver who was killed in the incident, explained that his nephew Malik had worked as a driver for a provincial intelligence department.
Hazrat added that his nephew was shot five times when he tried to intervene but the other man escaped from the gunmen and ran away. Other witnesses have confirmed that the second foreigner got away.
