French Legion of Honour welcomes actor Dennis Hopper
American film star Dennis Hopper has been made a commander in the French Legion of Honour in a Paris ceremony, it has been reported.  The Legion of Honour, which was formed in 1802, is France's highest award.

Being granted this honour visibly moved 72-year-old Hopper, who is famous for his roles in movies such as Blue Velvet, Apocalypse Now and 1969’s Easy Rider.

Dennis HopperTo tie in with Hopper’s new title, the Cinematique Francaise in Paris is launching a celebration of the actor’s work, which will be on show through until 19 January.

The exhibition will be on display at the Cinematique Francaise, French national film library, and is intended to reflect Hopper’s life and work with photographs and paintings being featured besides the films he starred in.

In the past, actors Lord Olivier and Clint Eastwood and singer Celine Dion have also received the French Legion of Honour award.
