French tennis star Amelie Mauresmo beats Alize CornetFrench star Amelie Mauresmo has got through to the second round of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow when she managed a 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-4 victory against compatriot tennis player Alize Cornet.
The former world number one was trailing 4-3 in the last set but she was able to be the winner of the last three games, and in so doing, she claimed her first win since she had made it to the fourth round of the US Open.
29-year-old Mauresmo will next play against Russian second seed Dinara Safina. Both the players Mauresmo and Cornet seemed to have problems holding their serve on the indoor surface of the Olympic sports complex the event was held in, but it was Mauresmo, who finally came through as winner. However, whilst she may have won against Cornet, Mauresmo is not too optimistic about her chances against Safina, whom she is next to face.
