There were actually two shows with a live one that was broadcast on Tuesday and another pre-recorded extended show that was to be aired on the Friday.
Carla Bruni performed her song, Tu Es Ma Came, on the live show, and on the recorded programme, she sang L'Amoureuse, or The Woman in Love.
Her latest album, Comme Si De Rien N'Etait, went straight to the top of the charts in France and she explained that the majority of the material on it was written before she met the French president.
Also appearing on Later…with Jools Holland were the rock bands Metallica and Kings of Leon.
