Songwriter for Kylie, Kara DioGuardi joins American Idol

Songwriter Kara DioGuardi, who has written material for Gwen Stefani, Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguilera and Leona Lewis, is reported to be joining the American Idol team as a judge.

37-year-old DioGuardi will star along with Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson in the latest edition of the very popular TV series.

DioGuardi has explained that besides a "great voice" she will be looking for individual style in the contestants, and she said: "It's not about vocal acrobatics. It's about being unique and doing things that are identifiable to you."

DioGuardi also said that she is going to be honest in her approach and tell it like she sees it.

Kara DioGuardi, along with Abdul, Cowell and Jackson will be viewing the first of the new series’ auditions in New York this week.

Rocker David Cook defeated teenager David Archuleta to become the winner of the last series of American Idol.
