US singer Isaac Hayes dies in Memphis
American singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes has been found unconscious at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead and was aged 65 when he died.

Police were summoned to Mr Hayes' house after his wife discovered her husband was unconscious.


Isaac HayesHayes was most famous for the 1971 hit Theme From Shaft for which he was awarded an Oscar.

Younger audiences in more recent years have known him as the voice of Chef from the popoular cartoon show, South Park.

The cause of the singer’s death is not known but he has had medical problems and suffered a stroke in 2006.

Isaac Hayes was also starred in several films, including It Could Happen to You with Nicolas Cage, and Ninth Street with Martin Sheen.

Hayes was also known for being a member of the Church of Scientology.

Hayes was married four times and was the father of 12 children.
