French speaking Sir Paul McCartney plays Quebec
Former-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney played his greatest hits and spoke in French to over 200,000 music fans at a Quebec City concert, although nationalists opposed the event.

Sir Paul being booked for the concert was criticised by some because of Great Britain’s 1759 conquest of New France and Quebec, however, Sir Paul made an appeal before his performance that they should "smoke the pipes of peace."

Sir Paul McCartney66-year-old McCartney played hits by the Beatles and with Wings as well as material from his solo career in the outdoor concert, which was being held as part of the 400th anniversary celebrations of Quebec.

Sir Paul McCartney is reported to have said: "Je parle seulement un petit peu Francais" - I only speak a little bit of French - "so I will be speaking in English - but I think most of you get it."

McCartney arrived in Quebec City early on Saturday night and hundreds of fans gathered at his hotel to welcome him to Canada.
