French newsreader Patrick Poivre d'Arvor leaves
Veteran French TV newsreader Patrick Poivre d'Arvor, who has been one of France’s most popular presenters, has appeared in this role for the last time.

60-year-old Mr Poivre d'Arvor has presented the evening news on a number of the country’s channels for over 30 years.

Patrick Poivre d'ArvorHowever, in June, the private channel TF1 revealed that the French anchorman was soon to be replaced by a younger female news presenter.

It has been suggested that political pressure has called for Mr Poivre d'Arvor’s replacement because he is said to have angered French President Nicolas Sarkozy by describing him as an excited child when he attended a G8 summit last year.

Industrialist Martin Bouygues, who is known to be friendly with the president of France, owns TF1.

However, TF1 has made no further comment on why Patrick Poivre d'Arvor is being replaced by a new presenter.
