French soldiers and army officers suspended after shooting
Two teams of French soldiers and five army officers have been suspended from a barracks in Aude in France.

French army chief of staff, Gen Bruno Cuche, gave in his resignation to President Nicolas Sarkozy, who had been appalled by the matter.

Gen Bruno CucheThe incident happened when a soldier used real bullets instead of blanks at a demonstration of military procedures just last week.

The youngest of those wounded is a three-year-old boy who was hit by bullet to the heart and arm and he is reported to be recovering from surgery to treat his serious injuries.

The French soldier responsible for firing the shots is a sergeant who fired the shots and he has been detained in custody.

The soldier has been charged with breach of security regulations and causing unintentional injuries and he could get up to three years in jail if found guilty.

It is now considered that he had kept back some live ammunition from a previous demonstration and then made the terrible mistake of loading the live bullets instead of the blanks.
