France violates human rights in terrorism cases claim
Human Rights Watch pressure group claim in a report that France has been in violation of human rights in the way it has been dealing with terrorism-related cases.

The group allege that France employs a catch-all offence to charge suspects even when they are only vaguely associated with a suspected terrorist organisation.

TerroristAs well as this the Human Rights Watch report claims that suspects can face long periods in custody before trial, and that some people have suffered physical abuse whilst being questioned.

Human Rights Watch points out that the offence of "criminal association in relation to a terrorist undertaking" is extremely vague and can be used against suspects on the flimsiest of evidence.

The group also claim it has proof of mistreatment of suspects being held, including sleep deprivation and physical abuse.

French ministers need to take action to remedy the matter it is claimed.
