Madeleine McCann case to be closed Portuguese media say
The Portuguese press have reported that the police are closing the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine was three when she vanished in Praia da Luz in Portugal on 3 May 2007.

Madeleine McCannMadeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann have both been named as suspects along with a third man, Robert Murat, but two newspapers in Portugal have reported that the police have said they are going to close the case due to lack of evidence against them.

The McCanns were said to be official suspects last September.

Mr Murat, who is also British, has been living with his mother in Praia da Luz near to the apartment where Madeleine was last seen, although he has strongly denied any involvement with whatever happened to the little girl.

The Portuguese papers are the Correio da Manha and the Jornal de Noticias that have claimed the case is closing and both publications said that the police simply had no evidence to charge either the McCanns or Mr Murat with any crime.
