Polish F1 driver - Robert Kubica official tester for BMW-Sauber

Pole Robert Kubica has become the first ever Polish f1 driver after being signed by the BMW-Sauber f1 team as an official tester and as such will be allowed to take part in a third car for the Friday practice sessions which means that these test drivers get to practice on and learn the f1 circuits. The 21-year-old Pole, who recently had a test with Renault, has signed for a one-year deal with an option to extend. "It's a fantastic opportunity for me. I'm going to prove that I have earned it," said Kubica.

BMW-Sauber are believed to be keen on grooming a young driver to replace Canadian Jacques Villeneuve. The former world champion has just one year left on his contract with the old Sauber team which BMW have honoured.

BMW-Sauber initially tried to tempt Britain's Indianapolis 500 champion Dan Wheldon to recross the Atlantic and come to f1 but without a guaranteed race drive in 2007, he turned it down.
