French court fines Ebay for Christian Dior and other fakes
A court in Paris, France has fined eBay ruling that the firm must pay 40m euros ($63m) in damages to luxury goods group LVMH because the Internet company has permitted online auctions of fake copies of LVMH products. But eBay said it would appeal.

LVMH had called for the damages claiming that eBay's French site had not done enough to prevent the sale of fake bags and perfumes, including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Givenchy brands.

eBayThe case against eBay was brought by six brands owned by the LVMH group.

Louis Vuitton Malletier, that specialise in handbag and luggage items, and clothing brand Christian Dior Couture accused eBay of "negligence" in allowing illegal copies of their products to be sold by auction and advertised on the website.

And Dior, Guerlain, Kenzo and Givenchy perfume companies sued for "illicit sales."

Only a month ago eBay also had to pay 20,000 euros to the goods firm, Hermes.
