Shirley Bassey is out of Nelson Mandela gig in London
Singer Dame Shirley Bassey has withdrawn from a concert in London for Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.

71-year-old Bassey, who is from Wales but now lives in Monaco, had been expected to recover from a stomach operation she had a month back to be well enough in time for Friday's event in Hyde Park. However, her doctors have advised it would be risky for the singer to travel at present.

Shirley BasseyPaul Carey, on behalf of Shirley Bassey said: "The Dame is hugely disappointed and was looking forward to the show immensely."

Dame Shirley came to fame many years back in the late ‘50s with hits like Big Spender and History Repeating.

Shirley Bassey sang at Glastonbury festival last summer, after arriving in a helicopter and wearing diamond-studded Wellington boots.

Troubled singer Amy Winehouse, who has also been recovering from illness, is however expected to perform at the festival this weekend.
