US lifestyle guru Martha Stewart not allowed in UK

US millionaire and lifestyle expert Martha Stewart has had her visa to enter the UK turned down because of her past convictions in America, it has been reported.

Ms Stewart, aged 66, served five months in an American prison in 2004 for lying to detectives about a share sale, however, her spokesman said she was optimistic that the problem could be sorted out in the near future.

The UK Border Agency stated it opposed the entry to Great Britain of anyone who had been convicted in the past of "serious criminal offences abroad".

Martha Stewart was supposed to be visiting the Royal Academy of Arts in London, as well as having a number of other engagements lined up.

Ms Stewart hade her riches from books, magazines and television programmes that gave advice on various matters such as cooking, gardening, furnishings and weddings.
