France’s Louvre in Paris holds Duran Duran pop concert
British pop group Duran Duran have become the first band to play at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Duran Duran, who came to fame in the ‘80s, performed in the Louvre Pyramid, which had been designed by IM Pei.

Duran DuranThe concert was organised as part of a fundraising campaign for the 18th century Decorative Arts Gallery of the museum, which is scheduled to re-open its doors again in 2011.

Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon is reported to have said he hoped their gig had "put a smile on the Mona Lisa's face".

The Louvre has never before permitted a pop concert to be held in its grounds or in its buildings so it was a first time historic occasion for the museum and Duran Duran.

The funds raised by the concert will be used for the restoration of a Louis XV drawing room, originally designed and built for the Hotel Villemare, which is going to be a special feature of the Decorative Arts Gallery.

Duran Duran are returning to the capital of France on the 2 July to appear at Le Cigalle, along with support by Mark Ronson.
